nothing will fuck you up as much as the realization that there’s no real reason the alphabet needs to be in order
okay so this made me very curious and i looked up some information on this. it turns out that before the arabic numbers were created, the arabic alphabet (which uses the abjad system, i.e. no vowels) was used in place of numbers, so each consonant had it’s own numerical value. this derived an order for which the arabic alphabet to be in, therefore kind of paving the way for there to be a set order for the alphabets that came afterward.
